Parks for women - safe behind four-metre high walls

The Islamic Republic of Iran has already established taxi services, banks, hospitals and sea-side resorts for the exclusive use of women. Now parks are also on the agenda. Though such parks were first thought of only a few years ago, they already exist in Boroujerd, Qom, Esphahan, Shiraz, Mashad, and Arak.

Some travel overland to save money, taking many months, and others never reach their destination, or even die in the attempt. Iran began filtering the bilingual news service shahrzadnews.org after the website published a series of stories about Meysam Lotfi, a 25-year-old man who is on death row. Attempts to access Shahrzad News (SN) via at least two of Iran’s main Internet Service Providers, Afra and Neda, have been marked as “denied” since last week.

Wondering who organises the Islamic fashion shows in Iran? Well, the Iranian police force and the Iranian Ministry of Interior Affairs. The issue of women’s clothing has become one way to create unity and cohesion among Islamic groups internationally. When a government such as the influential regime in Iran openly promotes Islamic fashion, its followers in Europe, Asia and even Africa follow suit. For pro-Iranian Muslim communities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, Iran is a role model. Even Muslim communities in the UK are following Iran’s example.

Iran denies making international commitments to stop stoning

Taraneh’s story: a lesbian’s life in Iran

Taraneh (48) fled Iran and sought asylum in Europe 17 years ago. She had known since her childhood that she was attracted to girls, but living her life as a lesbian in Iran was not possible. Before she fled, Taraneh had been arrested on countless occasions and had also spent time in prison.
