80% of Iranian women arrested for ‘bad hejabi’ are under 15
August 31, 2011

Shahrzadnews:According to figures released by the Iranian police, 80% of all the Iranian women under 20 arrested for ‘bad hejabi’ – ie being improperly dressed – are under 15.

This summer thousands of young Iranian women were rounded up and taken to police stations during the government’s annual crackdown on those who defy the obligatory dress code. However this year’s repression has been more widespread and intimidating than ever, after the regime allocated a large budget to setting up vigilante units. Thousands of women were employed to roam the streets, with full power to arrest those deemed to be wearing un-Islamic dress.

The figures also stated that 9.5% of all women arrested were between 16 and 20, 5% were between 21 and 25, while 8% were between 26 and 30.
